2025 - 2026 Committee/Task Force Preference
DUE 8/1

Every effort will be made to assign you to your first choice(s); however, the size and objectives of each committee will be taken into consideration in making committee appointments.
The AAML 2025 - 2026 open call for volunteers includes the following committees:

AAML Scholars Program:
This committee oversees the AAML program that coordinates a summer intern program for underrepresented students. Academy Fellows hire students to work in their offices. The program also includes a curriculum with weekly meetings with the Fellows and periodic Zoom meetings on selected topics.

Amicus Committee: The Amicus Committee reviews requests for AAML to participate in the amicus process under the guidance of the Amicus Policies of the AAML and offers its recommendation as to AAML amicus participation to the Academy President or the Presidents of Academy Chapters.

Bylaws & Policies Committee: This committee recommends changes and improvements in the Academy’s bylaws and policies as well as changes to AAML chapter bylaws. In 2026, this committee will work closely with the Board of Directors to modernize AAML's policies.

Digital Thought Leadership Committee: The AAML Digital Thought Leadership Committee is responsible for providing family law subject-matter expertise to inform Academy thought leadership, attract and solicit authors to contribute thought leadership to Academy publications, review thought leadership submissions through a family law attorney perspective, and serve as social media ambassadors to raise awareness and visibility of AAML thought leadership on behalf of AAML.

Journal Editorial Board: This committee is responsible for publishing the AAML Journal. The Journal Board meets three times a year to plan upcoming issues. Individual editors are assigned to a specific issue and are responsible for obtaining authors and supervising the editorial process. Participation on the Journal Editorial Board is a major time commitment.

Legislation: This committee monitors legislative initiatives in Congress and, to the extent possible, all 50 states, and either supports or opposes them depending on their compatibility with the Academy's mission statement, its resolutions, and tasks assigned to the committee. The committee proposes appropriate subjects for new legislation, uniform laws, and treaties, in keeping with Academy positions and programs. Geographic diversity is encouraged. The Legislation Committee now includes Domestic Violence issues.

Membership Committee: In partnership with staff, this committee develops strategies for Fellow recruitment and retention as well as identifies new opportunities to enhance value and benefits to our Fellows.

Mentorship Program: The Mentorship Committee works to promote the AAML to practicing family law attorneys to help them understand our standards for admission so that they may be prepared to apply for Fellowship when eligible.

National Test: This committee is responsible for administering and scoring the National Admissions Exam. Each year, it reviews and updates questions as necessary to ensure that the exam is relevant, accurate, and appropriately challenging.

Webinar Committee: This committee produces continuing education programs for viewing online either "live" or on-demand, with the goal of having the Academy recognized as the premier continuing education provider in the United States.
