Information for clinicians
We would like to particularly encourage submissions from clinician-researchers on clinical trials (completed or in progress) and clinical case studies. There is a separate abstract template available for clinicians (see above).

The abstract submission deadline will be extended for clinicians, however if submitted past Friday 14 August, the abstract will NOT be included in the Asia-Pacific Journal of Clinical Oncology.

Presentation types
Abstracts will be considered for three presentation formats at the 2020 HCRA Symposium:

Oral presentation
Selected abstracts will be allocated an oral presentation. These will be delivered in a number of sessions over the two days. Each oral presentation will be allocated a short presentation time followed by questions.

Rapid Fire presentation

Rapid Fire oral presentations have been allocated three minutes each, with no question time.

Poster Presentation
All posters will be on display throughout the symposium, with dedicated time to present posters.

Submission details
Prior to submitting your abstract please check the content of the form thoroughly and ensure that you have provided the full form of any abbreviated terminology. Images cannot be included.

Each abstract submitted must represent distinct research. Co-authorship of abstracts is permitted, and you may be first author on more than one abstract provided each abstract submitted represents distinct research.

Notification of acceptance
All abstracts will be peer-reviewed as part of the selection process. Notifications of acceptance will be sent via email to the submitting author by the end of

Translational Classification using the Common Scientific Outline (CSO) categories

Select the category your cancer research project is classified under that best reflects the primary focus of the research being undertaken. The CSO Categories are:

1. Biology
Research included in this category looks at the biology of how cancer starts and progresses as well as normal biology relevant to these processes.

2. Aetiology
Research into the causes or origins of cancer – genetic, environmental and lifestyle, and the interactions between these factors

3. Prevention
Identifying/researching interventions which reduce cancer risk by reducing exposure to cancer risks and increasing protective factors. Interventions may target lifestyle or may involve drugs or vaccines

4. Early Detection, Diagnosis and Prognosis
Identifying & testing cancer markers and imaging methods that are helpful in detecting and/or diagnosing cancer as well as predicting the outcome or chance of recurrence.

5. Treatment
Identifying & testing treatments administered locally or systemically as well as complementary treatments. Prevention of recurrence is also included.

6. Cancer Control, Survivorship and Outcomes Research
Includes patient care and pain management; tracking cancer cases in the population; beliefs and attitudes that affect behaviour regarding cancer control; ethics, education and communication approaches for patients and health care professionals; supportive and end-of-life care; and health care delivery in terms of quality and cost effectiveness.
