Blood Cancer United recognizes a professional leader for their career of support for patients with blood cancer and ongoing involvement with Blood Cancer United. The Hematology-Oncology Lifetime Achievement Award is presented at the opening session of the Association of Oncology Social Work (AOSW) National Conference.
Award Criteria
· Professionalism, integrity and commitment to oncology social work
· Well developed, clinical expertise in the delivery of patient care services
· Experience and dedication to the specific needs of blood cancer patients and their caregivers
· Commitment to providing compassion care and interventions to blood cancer patients and their families
· Knowledge of and patient referral to community resources, including Blood Cancer United, and skills in advocating for the fulfillment of blood cancer patients’ and caregivers’ needs
· Professional leadership in mentoring colleagues on the identification and management of the psychosocial needs of blood cancer patients and their families
· A commitment to the goals and activities of AOSW and Blood Cancer United
· Nominee must be a member of AOSW or non-members must use stipend money toward an AOSW membership
· Nominee must have an MSW degree
· 10 + years of involvement in hematology/oncology
· Active engagement with Blood Cancer United, including volunteering with Blood Cancer United as group facilitator, program speaker, fundraiser, or other Blood Cancer United related activities
· Actively refers patients to Blood Cancer United for support and resources (if nominee is recently retired, referrals must be within the past year)
