HRA Community Survey

Every 2 years Harm Reduction Australia provides an opportunity for people working or associated with drug and alcohol policies and programs the opportunity to have their say on issues affecting the sector and the wider community.

The survey takes less than 5 minutes.

Responses need to be submitted by 5:00 pm AEDST Friday 29 November 2019 and in keeping with our commitment to transparency, the results will be made publicly available as soon as possible.

Harm reduction is a person-centred philosophy that aims to reduce the harms associated with drug use. Peer based organisations are community-based organisations staffed and governed by people with lived experience of drug use.

Front of house pill testing involves direct engagement with the person presenting the drugs for testing and is a holistic and thorough process that provides information, education and an opportunity to speak with peer workers and health professionals.

* 9. Do you support the back of house pill testing programs as a compromise solution for music events?

Back of house pill testing is sometimes also called Police Acquired Drug Checking and involves no direct engagement with the person presenting the drugs for testing. It involves confiscated and discarded drugs at a festival being taken by police to a testing facility on-site.

Decriminalisation is the removal of criminal sanctions for the personal use of drugs.

* 17. Do you support the newly approved ACT cannabis laws?

The ACT has become the first Australian jurisdiction to legalise the possession, use and cultivation of small amounts of cannabis. Adults in the ACT will be able to grow 2 cannabis plants per person, with a maximum of 4 plants per household. Adults will also be allowed to be in possession of up to 50 grams of dry cannabis, or 150 grams of wet cannabis.

An early warning system is where any information on harmful drugs from drug users, health and law enforcement is quickly shared. It can be related to overdoses due to high potency or other negative side effects and is made available online and via social media.
