Volunteer Opportunities
Committees are essential to the growth of LSA and linguistics as a profession. They offer new ideas, engage with members and amplify collective impact. Some LSA committees are "open," in that any member who wants to join can do so on the membership form or in the member portal. Other LSA committees are "closed," because they are limited in size and are charged with specific operational tasks that are necessary for LSA to function. Members can express interest in serving on closed committees, but the final membership for each committee requires approval by the Executive Committee.
LSA is seeking expressions of interest in serving on closed committees for the next volunteer term commencing in January 2027. You may express interest in multiple positions, but once you are selected, we suggest that you serve on one committee at a time.
Scholars from groups traditionally underrepresented in LSA are especially encouraged to consider serving on an LSA committee. An expression of interest does not constitute an appointment to serve. All expressions of interest are appreciated, and everyone who expresses interest in serving will get a personal response in January 2027. Click on the links below to learn more about each Committee.
Important notes:Volunteer opportunities are available to current LSA members only.
