Protected Places Survey

We now have a unique opportunity to protect the places we love. Canada is committed to achieving the United Nations target of protecting at least 17 percent of its lands and inland waters by 2020. Through its Pathway to Target 1 initiative, the federal government is working with the provinces, Indigenous communities and conservation organizations across the country to meet the UN target.

Ontario Nature’s Protected Places campaign aims to ensure that Ontario does its part and that we reach the 17 percent target in our home province. We are working collaboratively with Indigenous partners, environmental organizations and community groups to identify and promote the protection of wild spaces across Ontario. We hope you will join us.

This survey aims to identify public lands and waters (i.e. Federal and Provincial Crown land, and municipal land. This does not include land owned by Conservation Authorities.) in need of protection. With your help we will assess, map and promote these areas as protected area candidates.

To submit your candidate site for consideration, please fill out our online survey for Nature Network member groups, below.
