Maternal Mortality Review Committee Application
The Georgia Maternal Mortality Review Committee (MMRC) identifies deaths occurring during or within a year of the end of a pregnancy and reviews each case to determine pregnancy-relatedness, causes, and contributing factors, and to make recommendations for interventions to reduce future deaths. Georgia law (O.C.G.A. 31-2A-16) provides the committee with the authority to collect data for maternal death case review. It also ensures the confidentiality of the case reviews and provides for legal protections for committee members.
Expectations of members of the Maternal Mortality Review Committee:
- Membership is voluntary, and members are appointed by the Georgia Department of Public Health to serve a three-year term.
- Committee members are required to attend 80% of MMRC meetings, participate in necessary trainings and respond to communications timely.
- Appointment to the MMRC can be terminated by the committee member at any time and for any reason.
To apply to become a member of the Maternal Mortality Review Committee, the following must be completed:
- Complete the online application in full. current committee members are required to reapply for each new term.
- Complete a follow-up telephone call with the Maternal Mortality Review Coordinator
- Complete confirmation of state licensure if applicable
- Sign a commitment letter, confidentiality statement, conflict of interest and disclosure form, and a recusal policy form.
