Here is a brief explanation of each of the various options we are considering offering to our community.
-Forensic science program: This half day program would allow students who live in Stallings to come visit the police department and learn about the science behind police forensic investigations. We will show your students how to do things like fingerprinting, crime scene photography, evidence processing, fingerprint comparison, and many other exciting aspects of law enforcement and forensic science. This hands-on program will allow students to not only learn but also put that learning into practice in a safe and controlled environment. This would be a free program would take place at the police department, and all supplies and equipment will be provided.
-Law enforcement summer youth camp: This would be a weeklong program, hosted by the police department during the summer, for young people aged 12 to 18 years old. The program would be more of a deep dive into the role of law enforcement in our community, with students learning about the various aspects of our profession. This hands-on summer camp would culminate in the students working together to solve a scenario-based crime using forensics, investigations, and crime scene processing. This program would also be free for the students.
-Police Explorers/ Cadet Program: The police explorers' program is a well-established nationwide program where students aged 14-20 years old can take an active role in learning about law enforcement. The program is led and facilitated by local police departments and teaches young people about law enforcement and can help prepare them for a career in law enforcement or other forms of public service. These programs usually meet once per month, and explorers are taught about the various tasks and responsibilities of law enforcement in a safe and controlled environment. This program does have some limited costs associated with participation to cover things like registration, insurance, and uniforms.
