1.  Introduction

Steuben County Residents,

Steuben County needs the knowledge of it's local citizens to help identify and plan for the preparation of disasters. The information provided by citizens will assist the hazard mitigation steering committee in creating action plans to reduce the risk of injury and property damage in the future.  The overall mission of the Hazard Mitigation Plan is to reduce the risk to the community and ultimately better protect life and property. Steuben County and it's jurisdictions are eligible to receive grant funding for mitigation programs through FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency).  To remain eligible, FEMA requires that an approved Hazard Mitigation Plan be maintained and updated every five years.  Steuben County's Hazard Mitigation Plan must now be updated to maintain this compliance.
