Welcome to The Captain's Ride 2017!

We are excited you are taking on the challenge alongside our Captain Steve Waugh AO.  You are embarking on a life changing experience with like-minded people, and a team who look forward to supporting and sharing this experience with you.
The Captain’s Ride is the cornerstone of the Steve Waugh Foundation’s Annual Fundraising Campaign - an exclusive ‘by invitation’ 6-day on-road cycle event.

The funds you raise will go to life changing Individual Grants for children and young adults affected by rare diseases for medicine, treatment, specialised equipment and items that improve the quality of life for those we help.

The Captain’s Ride is designed as a challenge on and off the bike. Rider Team Members make a significant commitment in terms of time, training and fundraising. You will have the support of a professional team at all levels to help you.

Arriving in Hobart on Saturday Nov 4th 2017, you will meet & greet the team, settle in, and enjoy the Launch Function that evening. It will be an early start the next morning, Day 1 of The Captain’s Ride Nov 5th and riding for the next 6 days from Hobart through Tasmania, arriving back in Hobart Friday Nov 10th, and end of ride function that evening. You will depart the following morning Saturday Nov 11th returning home.
This is a ‘by invitation only’ Ride.
  • Step 1:  You are invited to ‘Apply to Ride’. Applications are required by June 30th 2017.
  • Step 2: Your Application will be reviewed and assessed before acceptance to participate.
  • Step 3: Should your application be approved, you will receive a Team Member Agreement to be signed and your registration fee will be required to be paid in full by June 30th 2017.

Essential mandatory criteria to ensure the safety and well-being of riders, as well as meeting fundraising targets, have been put in place for applications to be accepted to join this year’s ride.
First and foremost, The Captain’s Ride is a true test of character – the welfare of all participants is vital.

1. Do you have a road worthy bike?
2. Can you commit to training?
3. Can you meet the fundraising target?

Participants will need a road bike in good working condition, be prepared to both train hard and to fundraise even harder. Safety, fitness and fundraising are mandatory criteria to take on The Captain’s Ride challenge and have your application accepted.

You will have the professional Foundation Office Team, Ride Tour Team and Peer to Peer Captains to support you every step of the way.  Don’t hesitate to call the Foundation Office to talk to a member of Team Waugh.
