The Friends of Passaic County Parks, Inc. proposes a new project entitled Landscape Restoration & Site Improvements at the Schuyler-Colfax House. The Schuyler-Colfax house is the oldest building in Passaic County, dating back to c. 1694 and was the residence of Captain William Colfax who served under General George Washington during the American Revolution. The site is now part of the Passaic County Park System. The structure is undergoing a full capital restoration project in efforts to be reopened to the public. With open green space surrounding the property, the proposed project is to restore the surrounding landscape with native species and to aesthetically bring the site to its late 17th century roots. In addition, the project includes ADA accessibility upgrades to get visitors in and out of the house, new parking features, and the installation of public restrooms.
