Why this new proposed design?
To improve the safety of pedestrians crossing Diffley Road, curb extensions or “bump-outs” are being proposed. This option creates a safer pedestrian crossing by reducing the crossing distance and improving pedestrian visibility for drivers approaching the intersection. The curb extensions would result in the consolidation of the existing left turn lanes on Diffley Road into shared left/thru lanes at the intersection.
Will this affect traffic?
A traffic analysis confirmed that left turning volumes at this intersection are low enough that this consolidation will not result in measurable delays for drivers.
