Summary

NABE’s TEC2026 Conference brings together hundreds of applied economists, data scientists, academics, and graduate students to explore how advances in economics and data science are shaping tools and techniques used by practitioners in tech and other industries. Leading business economists and data scientists from top tech firms like Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Netflix, Airbnb, Meta, Indeed, and more will discuss emerging and future data science needs in economic research and practice.

Job market candidates interested in careers in tech, consulting, or other nonacademic roles are encouraged to apply to present their market paper at the Job Market Poster Session. Approximately 10–12 proposals will be accepted for presentation.

The Job Market Poster Sessions are sponsored by The NABE Foundation to promote the exchange of new ideas and research in progress, offering presenters a chance to share their job market paper with tech economists, data scientists, and recruiters, while networking and gaining feedback. Selected presenters will also deliver a 5-minute Lightning Talk (3-4 slides), recorded for conference attendees, including recruiters and hiring managers.

Opportunities for selected presenters:

Lightning Talks: Sunday, Nov. 1, 12:00–1:15 pm at Marriott Marquis San Diego.
Poster Sessions: Networking breaks on Monday, Nov. 2 (exact times to be confirmed).
Presenters must attend both sessions.

The Selection Committee will select abstracts for poster submission. Applicants must submit a draft poster or preliminary results for review. Final selection depends on demonstrated progress and committee approval. Those selected receive one complimentary full registration to TEC2026 courtesy of The NABE Foundation.
PROCESS FOR SELECTION (two-tiered):

1. Apply by Wednesday, August 26, 2026
  • Complete the application
  • Submit an abstract of no more than 250 words
  • Submit a link to your paper (if applicable)
  • In a few sentences, describe your ideal work environment, employer type, job function, etc.
2. Candidates of the selected abstracts will be notified by Friday, September 4, 2026.

3. Draft poster or preliminary results report, showing significant process, due Monday, September 31, 2026.

4. Candidates who have demonstrated significant progress, as determined by the committee, will be selected for display at the 2026 NABE Tech Economics Conference in San Diego on November 1 & 2, 2026. Those individuals will receive one full complimentary registration (includes two conference luncheons). Notification of final selection will take place no later than Tuesday, October 6, 2026.

Judging: Proposals will be judged on Creativity, Relevance, Potential for Insight, and Feasibility. Preference will be given to candidates interested in pursuing careers in tech, consulting, and other nonacademic roles.
