Marijuana Business Daily (MJBizDaily), since 2011 the top producer of B2B news and trade shows serving executives and major investors in America's $8 billion cannabis industry, is seeking an editor to oversee its daily news website, MJBizDaily.com.

You'll be based in our Denver office reporting to the Managing Editor and will receive a competitive salary, paid time off, 401(k) and health benefits. As seen in Inc. Magazine, Forbes and the WSJ, we are a highly professional, award-winning, fast-growing company. 

Day to Day Job Duties:
  • Manage a team of reporters who primarily write for the website but also devote significant time to the magazine and other products.
  • Collaborate with reporters and editors in our Niche Products team (Finance, Data, Hemp & International) who contribute to the website.
  • Develop and maintain an editorial calendar for the site with pre-planned features, evergreen pieces, investigative stories and backup content that can be used in a pinch.
  • Assign and approve content.
  • Post stories, briefs, photos and images on MJBizDaily.com via WordPress.
  • Create and proof daily and weekly e-newsletters with assistance from IT and marketing.
  • Edit content on deadline for organization, readability and accuracy. Content includes stories, briefs, charts/graphics and possibly business reports (10-30 pages).
  • Keep tabs on news developments throughout the day and write or assign briefs as needed.
  • Write headlines that are compelling to the right audience and incorporate strong SEO.
  • Help team members improve their skills.
  • Develop a deep understanding of what types of content our audience needs, with a key focus on determining how we can help business owners understand developments that may affect them. 

Required background and skills:
  • At least five years' experience editing business content for a media organization (trade publication, news website, newspaper, etc.), including extensive experience line editing.
  • Experience managing a team of journalists.
  • Experience working in a digital-first editorial environment.
  • Experience editing breaking news and other content on tight deadlines.
  • An understanding of SEO and the importance of keywords.
  • An understanding of how to craft content for mobile viewership.
  •  Knowledge of AP style.
  • Ability to quickly understand complex topics and beats.

Preferred skills:
  • Editing/reporting experience at a trade publication specifically.
  • Daily news experience at a reputable publication.
  • Experience creating and sending business-focused newsletters.
  • Experience working on business content for conferences and events.
  • Basic knowledge of the cannabis industry.
