Applicant Information

Completion of the application will serve as providing consent to participate in the research study as described below. You must apply by Sunday, October 31st. Please note that you will receive a notification by email only if you are selected.
- We are conducting a research study to collect public views about human gene editing in the United States. If selected, you will be participating in a 2-part online facilitated discussion forum that will take place between 5pm-8pm Eastern/4pm-7pm Central/3pm-6pm Mountain/2pm-5pm Pacific Time
- Part I: Monday, November 8 and
- Part II: Tuesday, November 9.
- We are inviting your participation, by completing the prescreening survey (application) below to provide your demographic information, experience, and perspectives. We will choose 30 participants from the applicant pool based on a number of factors in order to ensure a diversity of background, experiences and perspectives among our participant group.
- You will need a computer or tablet (such as an iPad) with a webcam, audio and video capability and stable Internet connection to be able to participate.
- If selected, you will be invited to spend 6 hours total (3 hours each day) participating in the facilitated group discussion with other participants including breaks.
- We will be collecting your anonymous worksheets, taking notes of our conversations, and recording the online sessions.
- To participate, you must be willing to participate on a video meeting (using Zoom and other technologies), speak with other participants, and share your thoughts.
- Your participation in this study is voluntary. Participants will receive a $100 Gift Card (American Express/Mastercard/VISA) by US postal mail approximately 3 weeks after the completion of the forum and signing an electronic form. You must be 18 or older to participate in the research study.
- You must participate in both parts of the forum to receive your gift card.
- Participants in the study will have the opportunity to learn about and express their views on human gene editing. There are no foreseeable risks or discomforts to your participation.
- Your responses including (a) the demographic data collected in the prescreening survey (application), (b) information collected in worksheets and discussion notes, (c) event evaluation survey, and (d) optional post interview, will be anonymous. The results of this study may be used in reports, presentations, or publications but your name will not be known. Most results will only be shared in the aggregate form and any individual comments will remain anonymous.
- The discussions may be recorded to allow the researchers to more fully explore the deliberations. All recordings will be kept in a secure location and be used only by the researchers to further our understanding of the deliberations that take place. In addition, any notes taken by the research team will be secured and used only by the research team for research purposes with all personally identifiable information removed.
