About the Organization
The Student Debt Crisis Center (SDCC) is a national nonprofit focused on student debt advocacy, borrower engagement, education & outreach, and policy change. We work with borrowers, advocates, policymakers, and other stakeholders to advance solutions to end the student debt crisis and support people navigating repayment.

Position Overview
The Executive Director leads the organization’s strategy and day-to-day operations. This is a hands-on role at a small nonprofit, requiring someone who can balance leadership with operational work.

The Executive Director manages staff and contractors, oversees communications and programs, supports fundraising efforts, and ensures borrower voices and survey data inform advocacy on student debt. The Executive Director reports regularly to SDCC’s Board of Directors.

This role is best suited for someone comfortable working in a small, mission-driven organization where responsibilities are broad and resources are limited.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage daily operations and guide organizational strategy and priorities.
  • Coordinate staff, contractors, programs, and communications.
  • Oversee advocacy, borrower engagement, and public education efforts.
  • Develop communications materials including reports, webinars, emails, and digital content.
  • Manage the organization’s website and social media platforms.
  • Oversee borrower surveys and data collection and use findings to support reports and advocacy.
  • Support fundraising efforts including grant writing and donor reporting.
  • Work with the board to support planning and organizational growth.
  • Assist the President with fundraising goals.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in nonprofit work, advocacy, public policy, communications, or organizing.
  • Strong management skills or experience, leading a small team of independent contractors, full time staff and board of directors.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and communication skills.
  • Experience working with survey data, research, or data analysis.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently in a remote environment.
  • Familiarity with digital tools such as Canva, Google Drive/Workspace, Wix, SurveyMonkey, or social media platforms.
