Introduction

We would like to take a moment to introduce ourselves, and provide some insight on the executive search we are commencing with the Lakehead District School Board for a new Director of Education.

Phelps is an Executive Search and Leadership Advisory firm with 30 years of senior recruitment and talent management experience within the broader public sector, including school boards, universities, colleges, governments (municipal and provincial), hospitals, crown corporations, regulatory bodies, not-for-profits and professional associations. Jayson Phelps and Jennifer Adams have been retained to work with the Lakehead Board of Trustees' Search Committee to support the selection of a new Director of Education. In a time of richly diverse demographics and evolving roles and responsibilities for educational leaders, we will support the Lakehead District School Board as it seeks to support the learning and well-being of students and staff, while working with families and the community. Leadership must be exemplary and demonstrate integrity and innovation.

Through this survey, we are seeking input on the mandate for a new Director of Education as well as the leadership characteristics, attributes and experiences that define the ideal candidate. It is important that we collect a broad and diverse set of responses to more thoroughly reflect the system and stakeholders' perspectives as we prepare the Opportunity/Position Brief (mandate and candidate profile).

You will help the Selection Committee understand your views on:

· Key opportunities to be addressed by a new Director of Education;
· The desired leadership characteristics and experiences of a successful candidate;
· Indicators of success in the new Director's work in the first 18 months.

Responses received by March 21, 2022 will be considered in the development of the Director of Education Job Description and Candidate Profile. All responses are strictly confidential.
