INTRODUCTION and instructions

Thank you for taking the time to help us envision the future of facilities for Cleveland Heights - University Heights High School!

In addition to the work we are doing to ensure that our high school will honor the past by being respectful of the historical portions of the existing building, and that our building will be safe, healthy, durable and supportive of teaching and learning, we are hoping your responses will help set a direction for how the school environment can support educational and community needs.

As we kick-off the planning and design process, this exercise is intended to gauge your opinions of a range of example school facilities - NOT to indicate that any of the ideas presented in the videos are already being incorporated plans for Heights High.

The examples (are all public and/or charter schools) illustrate how educational activities can be supported by school facilities - by actual physical space.

<Please focus on how the educational strategies and functions of each example are accommodated in the spaces shown, rather than the aesthetics or architecture of each school example, none of which have the historic richness of Heights High.>

Wherever you like or do not like a concept presented, let your voice be heard, and we will have a stronger idea of how best to proceed with the school design. Please let us know what you think so we can begin planning and designing the most appropriate educational environments for the transformation of Heights High!

Please watch the video collage, which includes short videos illustrating educational strategies of 9 different high schools, BEFORE OR AS you complete the survey. Each question pertains to one of the high schools, which are presented in aligned order. (The overall video is about 30 minutes long). You will have an opportunity to add your own thoughts in optional comment boxes after each multiple choice question as well as at the end of the survey.

To help the facilities planning and design consultants better understand your needs and your aspirations for the future, please reflect on your high school as directed below. Please focus on the educational strategies and functions of each example, rather than the aesthetics or architecture of each school building. NOTE that there are no "right" or "wrong" responses, this survey is intended to gather your insights and perceptions!

INSTRUCTIONS:
For each video clip, use a scale of 1-7 to indicate your thoughts on the following questions:

A) CURRENTLY, how similar is your high school to the ideas presented in this video clip?

B) IN THE FUTURE, how similar you would like your high school to become to the ideas presented in this video clip?

.
Please note that the video is about 30 minutes long, and that each question is designed to be answered in only a few seconds. While the video file can be started, paused, stopped and restarted, the survey should be completed all at once. We have found it easiest to watch the video and complete the survey both at the same time. Please consider this parameter as you decide how best to complete the video/survey exercise.

Enjoy!
