Title of Study: Discerning the Causes of and Remedying the Decline of Black Male Millennials in the Local Church
You have been invited to participate in a research project titled "Discerning the Causes of and Remedying the Decline of Black Male Millennials in the Local Church." “This project will serve as Lonnie E. Anderson, Jr’s, PastorLEAJ@gmail.com, dissertation research project for the requirements of the DMIN.”  This consent document will explain the purpose of this research project. It will go over all of the time commitments, the procedures used in the study, and the risks and benefits of participating in this research project.  Please read this consent form carefully and completely and ask any questions if you need more clarification. What are we trying to find out in this study?
This researcher is trying to discover why Black male millennials are leaving the local church. This research project aims to determine the rationale for such a departure and propose an effective intervention.
Who can participate in this study?
The subjects for this study are Black Male Millennials, pastors, and church leaders.
Where will this study take place?
This study will take place through online surveys and interview questions.
What is the time commitment for participating in this study?
The survey will not take more than 30 minutes to complete.
What will you be asked to do if you choose to participate in this study?
If you decide to participate in this study, you will be asked for your informed consent and submit the responses to this survey by clicking Okay and proceeding with the survey.
What information is being measured during the study?
The rationale for why Black millennials are leaving the church will be measured, as well as the insights of church leadership on how the church can do better in addressing this departure.  This section will describe the measurements we will take during your participation in the study.
What are the risks of participating in this study, and how will these risks be minimized?
There is minimal to no risk of participating in this study. All risks will be minimized by anonymous responses and coding.  If you request to complete your interview questions via Zoom, please be advised that you will have much-reduced confidentiality relative to online survey participants. The records of this study will be kept private. Published reports will not include any information that will make it possible to identify a subject. Research records will be stored securely, and only the researcher will have access to the records. Your data may be shared in future research studies or with other researchers. If data collected from you is shared, any information that could identify you, if applicable, will be removed before the data is shared.
Participant responses will be kept confidential using pseudonyms. Surveys will be coded, and responses will be anonymous. Data will be stored on a password-locked computer and locked filing cabinet. The data may be used in future presentations. After three years, all electronic records will be deleted, and all physical records will be shredded.  The researcher will not disclose participant identities or how named, or identifiable individuals responded.
