Artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the hottest and most widely discussed topics in the United States and around the world these days. So, not surprisingly, its use and reliance by nonprofit and association executives and leaders have been on a similar trajectory. What are the potential ramifications for nonprofits in their daily operations? How can AI be effectively used and responsibly managed within nonprofit organizations? What can nonprofits do to mitigate their financial, legal, reputational, and other risks from the use of this powerful technology? What should be the role of the board of directors, if any, on these issues?
Join us for an interactive in-person discussion to learn more about all of this. Our all-star panel – all of whom have notable experience with nonprofits’ use and deployment of AI – will discuss the following topics, among others, with a focus on practical tips and suggestions for nonprofits and associations (and not on broader AI policy questions):
· Separating AI hype from reality. Nonprofit staff and boards hear conflicting claims about what AI can do and how well it can do it.
· Checking accuracy and preventing "hallucinations." Human vetting of all AI output and ground answers in your organization's policies and principles.
· Ethics, fairness, and new safety threats. How do nonprofits weed out inherent AI bias (especially where being used in employment, eligibility, or service decisions), ensure privacy and data security, and guard against AI-enabled phishing and fraud aimed at nonprofits.
· Evaluating tools before and after adoption. Pilot a tool on real tasks, set success measures, and monitor performance instead of relying on vendor claims.
· Managing AI agents and keeping humans in charge. When do you allow AI to take actions such as sending emails, responding to online inquiries, writing summaries or analyses, or updating records, and how to keep humans in the loop.
· Using AI to advance your mission. Start with the mission, current goals and strategies in support of the mission, and targeted uplift of business capabilities to get to true enterprise-wide AI adoption.
Join us for a lively, interactive discussion on one of the biggest issues that nonprofits and associations are grappling with today, along with great networking with your C-suite colleagues and tasty food and libations – all with great DC views.
Please RSVP by Tuesday, November 10th! Note that this event is limited to nonprofit staff only.
