Healing Broken Hearts Presentation/Workshop application

Healing Broken Hearts is designed as a one day conference to support the bereaved.  In the Ottawa/Gatineau area, there are different agencies and organizations that provide individual and group support (E.g. Roger Neilson House, Bereaved Families of Ontario - Ottawa Chapter, Compassionate Friends, Hospice Ottawa and others).  The purpose of this event is to work with any/all of these organizations and complement these options and provide opportunities for the bereaved and those supporting them on the journey to be together for a day of compassion, learning and understanding.

We welcome your application to present or host a workshop at this event.  Please complete your application before Saturday, January 11, 2020 @9pm

Approximately 15 presentations/workshops will be selected based on a diversity of topics and types of presentation.  If your proposal is accepted, we will ask you to provide a photo for each presenter to accompany the bio (High resolution: 300dpi, larger than 800px width in either Jpeg, EPS or TIFF format

We are inviting proposals for presentations, workshops, roundtable discussions, and multi-media projects for an interdisciplinary conference on the topic of helping people/families/youth through grief (anticipatory/after) and loss. We expect to have 15 workshop slots of 75 mins in length.

Topics may include traditional and non-traditional techniques, skills, and innovative strategies for coping with grief and bereavement.  The one day conference will incorporate topics relatable to anyone who is working with individuals who are grieving or people who are in the grieving process, no matter the time span between today and their loss.

Topic examples include but not limited to any form of loss (suicide, illness, violent death, opioid/addiction), motor vehicle accidents, death due to sudden illness, culture and spirituality, SIDS, perinatal loss, helping the helper, and supporting youth.

Experiential and demonstration based proposals are strongly encouraged. Submissions from healthcare professionals, academics, artists and students in fields such as individual, group, and family therapy, child life, expressive arts therapy, movement therapy, grief counseling, hypnotherapy, complementary and alternative medicine, psychology, sociology, cultural anthropology, comparative religion, spiritual healing, folk and indigenous healing methods, media arts, and other disciplines are ALL welcomed.

Submitted proposals for individual presentations should not exceed 500 words and should be clear on the content, objectives, and skills taught for the presentation.

Alongside a broad spectrum of individual presentations, we welcome submissions or panels organized around a common theme.  Such sessions may comprise up to 6 individual presenters and a discussant.  We regret that we are unable to offer honoraria or reimbursement for travel expenses to workshop presenters, however, free attendance to the rest of the event for those selected will be offered.
