Now is the Time:  United For Equality

The First Annual Summit on GBV in PNG

On November 8 to 10, 2020 the Coalition of Parliamentarians to End Gender-Based Violence hosted the first ever Summit to address gender-based violence and gender equality in Papua New Guinea.  More than 750 participants joined the Members of Parliament; Government, Corporate, CSO, Youth, Diplomatic, Religious and Development Leaders; and survivors and perpetrators of violence to discuss issues and solutions, and to lay a forward seeking pathway for a safer, more prosperous and more equitable Papua New Guinea.

As a participant in this event, we are asking for your feedback to help our Coalition ensure that next year's Summit is even better.

As a reminder:

The cost of gender-based violence in Papua New Guinea is high: physically, emotionally, and economically in terms of opportunities lost for women and children, their families, communities and the country as a whole. Living in constant insecurity prevents women and children from leading the normal lives of free citizens and creates an untenable environment for growth and development.

Gender equality is a principle strongly advocated for in the constitution of Papua New Guinea and the country’s primary Goals and Directives. Further, gender-equality is identified in extensive bodies of literature as the principle underlying cause of gender-based violence.

Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
