Let the Sun Shine In: Climate, Equity, Justice

Founded in 1921 as the New York State Association of Consulting Psychologists, the New York State Psychological Association was the first state psychological association in the country. The 21st Century calls for continued work to bring about racial and economic equality. As psychologists, we are trained to promote individual development and worth. We can utilize our knowledge of science and practice to expand our impact to support governmental and social initiatives. Addressing mental health needs, climate issues, equity issues and political activism are all necessary to promote a thriving culture.

NYSPA's 2023 Convention is designed to help New York State psychologists gain skills to help individuals work on acceptance, mindfulness, and psychological flexibility in response to these challenges.

Programs will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

1) Relevance to Convention Theme - "Let the Sun Shine In: Climate, Equity, Justice": The topic clearly falls within the scope of the conference theme.

2) Overall Quality of Proposal: The proposal is well organized, succinct and adheres to the requested format and the topic adds value to the field with a solid evidence or experience base.

3) Level of Interest to NYSPA Members: The topic is one that will both interest and motivate NYSPA members to attend.

4) Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: The proposal specifically integrates and addresses issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

We are seeking submissions related to individual, family, group, organization, and community-based practices. The program committee encourages proposals for symposia, discussion hours, and workshops from individuals representing all areas of psychology. We encourage submissions from all levels of professionals, including students. You do not have to be a NYSPA member to participate. We welcome submissions from NYSPA members and non-members alike.
