Workforce readiness survey – secondary science teacher supply & compulsory Year 11 science/pūtaiao from 2028

The Ministry of Education is seeking feedback from science teachers to better understand general secondary science teacher supply challenges, and the potential workforce impacts of making science/pūtaiao compulsory for Year 11 from 2028. Your responses will help inform internal planning and support ahead of these curriculum changes. The survey should take less than 10 minutes to complete.

This privacy statement explains why we are running this survey, what information we are seeking from you and how we will use and look after that information.

This anonymous survey collects information about your feedback and views on general secondary science teacher supply challenges, and the potential workforce impacts of making science/pūtaiao compulsory for Year 11 from 2028. The information collected will be used to inform Ministry of Education workforce planning, policy development and reporting.

No individual respondents, schools, kura or education associations will be named or identified in any reports, presentations, briefings or publications produced from this feedback process. Survey responses will be analysed and reported in aggregate form. A summary of the aggregated survey findings will be shared with survey participants and may also be included in reports, presentations, briefings or publications produced by the Ministry of Education.

The survey is not intended to collect any personal information that identifies individuals. However, if any personal information is provided in your survey responses, it will be treated in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020.

We use SurveyMonkey to administer this survey. Survey responses will be held in secure Ministry of Education systems and will only be accessible to staff associated with this work.

This survey does not ask you to identify yourself or others. However, at the end of the survey, you may choose to complete a separate form to provide your name, email address and your school/kura and/or organisation if you would like to be contacted about participating in follow-up discussions or surveys related to this work. Providing your contact details is entirely voluntary.

Any contact details provided through the separate form will be collected and stored separately from your survey responses and will not be linked to your survey answers. Contact details will only be accessible to Ministry of Education staff involved in this work and will only be used to contact you about possible follow-up discussions or surveys related to this work.
