Connection

We live in a time when our understanding of 'the interconnectedness of all things' is continually expanding, particularly through electronic communication and artifical intelligence drive systems.

And at the same time, those systems have the capacity to distance us from each other. We are constantly pulled together and pushed away through our daily activities and the choices we make.

Human beings crave connection to each other, to our families and to our larger communities. Whether we choose a life of solitude or a life of active connection to others, humanity needs connection to survive and flourish.

We invite artists to contribute to this discussion through the work they make for the Rockingham Art Awards 2020.

Open to Western Australian Artists only.

Employees of the City of Rockingham are ineligible to enter.

Entry forms must be received by the City of Rockingham no later than 4pm on Friday 21 February 2020. Any entry that is incomplete or submitted late will be deemed ineligible. For more information and full details of prizes and conditions of entry please visit the City of Rockingham's website

The City of Rockingham reserves the right to reproduce images of works for promotional, marketing or educational purposes.

Work submitted was completed by myself within the last 18 months and was not previously entered into an award, competition or exhibition (including online).

Only one piece of artwork per artist can be entered into the awards.

Multiple works will be accepted where these constitute a single artwork and do not exceed the specified dimensions in total.

Insurance is the responsibility of the Artist.

While care is taken, the City of Rockingham holds no responsibility for damage caused to works during installation, de-installation, and while the works are on display.

The City of Rockingham Art Awards is open to any visual media except video.

Works will be selected from submitted digital images. Any significant changes to works following selection must be reported to the Curator.

The Selection Panel’s decision for inclusion of entries is final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into. Lobbying the curator, selection panel, or City of Rockingham staff will result in instant disqualification and preclude entry in future Awards.

2D and 3D works MUST NOT EXCEED 101.6 cm (40") on the longest side, including framing, and should not exceed a maximum weight of 20 kg. Works in excess of this size will not be accepted.

Works must be suitably framed for display and ready to hang; a stretched canvas is considered a suitable frame.

Works must be ready for hanging with ‘D’ rings and wire positioned 5-10 cm below top of work.

Artwork labels must be printed and securely attached to ACCEPTED artwork.

All entries must be received by the City of Rockingham by 4pm Friday 21 February 2020. I understand no late entries will be accepted into the competition.

Should there be unsuitable/insufficient entries a prize may not be awarded.

Winners will be announced on Saturday 2 May 2020 (with the exception of the People's Choice). Winners will be published on the City of Rockingham website.

All works except the Youth Category must be listed for sale, and a price attached. The Curator will be in contact with you should any sale occur.

Youth Category Only – Artworks completed by ATAR students for school projects (and any subsequent entry by the School into other awards, competitions or exhibitions) may be entered into the City of Rockingham Art Awards. Confirmation will be required by the Schools Art Teacher or Principal if the works are selected for exhibition.

If selected, artists agree not to withdraw exhibited works before the listed de-installation time, or request a change in
de-installation.

The City reserves the right to remove a work from display where the work can be considered a health hazard or risk to the public.

If selected, de-installation takes place on Monday 18 May 2020. Artists agree to collect their works on the 18 May 2020 between 1pm and 6pm. You must bring the official receipt received by the City of Rockingham - received on delivery of work. If you require another person to pick up work you must nominate them on this receipt.
