UAW 5810 Housing/Cost of Living Survey
In order to achieve our goal of winning a comprehensive compensation package that accurately reflects the value of Postdoc research and the cost of living near UC campuses, it’s important to know the major expenses that Postdocs face such as housing, relocation costs, childcare, and transportation.

Please take a few minutes to fill out this survey that will help inform our union’s bargaining proposals on these topics. Please include contact information so we can follow up with you if necessary, and your responses will be kept confidential.

Our UAW 5810 bargaining team has made a housing justice proposal to UC that would ensure all Postdocs living in UC or private housing pay no more than 30% of their income to housing. This would ensure that UAW 5810 members are not rent-burdened.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how important is it to you that we win this housing provision to ensure that no UAW 5810 member is rent-burdened?

We anticipate UC will strongly resist agreeing to this proposal, although they've already bargaining housing stipends with other groups of unionized employees, like medical interns and residents. Are you ready to take action to show the UC that we are united and serious about winning housing and other cost-of-living demands?
Please share any additional comments about your cost of living, including any topic that was not included in the questions above.
Help win a more just and dignified workplace for researchers at UC! Mass participation is critical to having a successful and democratic bargaining campaign. Anyone can help in ways big and small.
