HPCDP has been conducting research with Oregonians to inform a coordinated campaign that makes the case for policy change to prevent chronic disease. One of the tools we are creating is a logo that counties and tribes could use with all their work focused on creating healthy communities. Using this logo across the county and state will enable policy makers and others to view our individual efforts as part of a larger movement to improve health for Oregonians. The logo might appear on materials, websites, reports and other communication used to talk about health promotion and chronic disease prevention activities.
In focus groups, Oregonians have responded positively to messages about how everyone needs access to healthy options, too many Oregonians currently don’t have access, and we can address this by creating policies in our workplaces, schools, communities, counties and state. They also provided feedback on logo options and told us they prefer logos that:
• Show movement and are dynamic
• Are iconic, like a stamp or seal; something that marks a healthy item/place
• Show the state of Oregon, play on pride and place (note that this doesn’t mean it HAS to be the state—it’s one option we can consider in playing on pride of place)
• Indicate the start of a movement, or the places where change could start to occur
Logos also must:
• Work well with the OHA logo and county logos
• Reproduce well
• Resonate in all counties and can be customized with the county name if desired
Please note that although we are using the themeline "Healthy Communities/Healthy People" in this effort, this campaign is intended for all programs that make communities healthier through policy change, not just those counties working specifically on the Healthy Communities planning and implementation grants.
