What is the Guiding Coalition?

The Guiding Coalition for Public Engagement fulfills the mandate of the Council Initiative on Public Engagement by:
  • Monitoring the City’s progress on delivering on its public engagement Action Plan through reports and performance measures,
  • Ensuring administrative, public and Council perspectives remain forefront throughout the implementation, and
  • Providing advice and recommendations and acting as a resource for City Administration as it plans and delivers public engagement processes and activities.
 
Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a group of diverse people with a keen interest in the relationship between governance and public engagement, who are willing to help make Edmonton a city that is shaped by its citizens.

In addition to interest in or experience with public engagement, interest or experience in the following would be considered an asset:

Working with community or civic organizations
Providing advice and recommendations to a large organization
Considering diverse perspectives
Implementing new policies in a large organization 
Developing and implementing work plans
Consensus based decision making
Monitoring, reporting and evaluating outcomes

Time commitment:
  • A two (2) year term that begins in November 2019
  • A minimum of 2 volunteer hours a month
  • Attend 9 regularly scheduled meetings of the Guiding Coalition during the year
  • Additional meetings may be held as required

Interested applicants should submit their application form, resume and two references through volunteer opportunity no later than November 10, 2019.

Interviews will take place in November.  Only successful candidates will be contacted for an interview.

Volunteer Waiver

I understand and accept the risks of my volunteer position: I understand that there is an inherent risk of injury which may occur during the course of my volunteer activities with the City of Edmonton.

  • I understand and agree to abide by the terms and conditions of my volunteer work with the City of Edmonton including the Code of Conduct handbook, volunteer policies as well as the procedures and program guidelines.
  • I understand that all volunteer positions have a three month probationary period and many volunteer positions have minimum and maximum terms.
