Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Letter of Support |
Over the last several years, there has been a growing focus within the social sector around the issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). As a foundation, we recognize the importance of these issues. Intensifying our focus on diversity and inclusion can help us identify creative solutions to internal challenges and to those faced by the sector. Addressing equity in grantmaking can help us better create opportunities for all the communities we serve.
To help inform our work, we need the ability to collect, analyze, and share demographic data. And to do so in a way that is consistent across the social sector. Without sector-wide standards for how data on diversity is collected, we will have difficulty in identifying trends, gaps, overlaps, and opportunities. We are confident that better diversity information across the sector will help us better understand the constituencies we are working to help, allow us to better evaluate the impact of our work, and monitor trends.
We know that GuideStar has already begun this work, having worked in partnership with D5 and Green 2.0 over the past few years. GuideStar is positioned to build upon its existing efforts to ensure more data is collected and that the data is accessible to be searched, downloaded, and analyzed to drive actionable intelligence.
We offer our support for GuideStar’s work and look forward to keeping abreast of GuideStar’s efforts in this area. Along with adding our support, we are taking our own steps to making diversity, equity, and inclusion core to our daily grantmaking and organizational practices.
