Guantanamo Bay: Service at the detainment center

Free Continuing Legal Education (CLE) seminar
August 3, 2015
Indiana War Memorial
431 N. Meridian Street
3:15 – 4:15 p.m.

The national Conference of Court Public Information Officers (CCPIO) will meet in Indianapolis August 3-5. The educational sessions for local, state and federal court outreach specialists will include a CLE at the Indiana War Memorial.

The discussion will center on the challenges of providing legal services to detainees and giving access to the press at the secure location. Two attorneys—Indiana Supreme Court Justice Steven David and Indiana State Bar Association Local and Specialty Bar Liaison Catheryne Pully—have served with distinction at Guantanamo Bay. In addition to their experience as Judge Advocate General (JAG) officers, they both also had regular interaction with the press. Stories from their time in the difficult environment of Guantanamo Bay provide lessons for court PIOs facing tough media management situations.

Space is limited. There is no cost for the CLE. Doors will open by 2:45 p.m. Please arrive by 3 p.m. in order to sign-in and receive CLE credit. Directions and parking at http://www.in.gov/iwm/2334.htm.
