SNAP benefits are expected to be suspended this month due to the federal government shut down. As a result, we have members of our community who will struggle to feed their families. Many in our Village have expressed a willingness to help those in need.

One easy way is by donating to our local food pantries. The Community Food Pantry, located at Christ Church San Marcos (43 S. Broadway), distributes on the second Thursday of the month and will be distributing additional grocery store gift cards to their clients. The Horseman's Harvest Neighborhood pantry located at St. Teresa's on Beekman Avenue distributes on the third Thursday of the month, and the Sleepy Hollow High School Food Pantry distributes on Mondays to families in the TUFSD school system. The Community Opportunity Center distributes food on the third Wednesday of the month. You can donate through the food pantry websites linked above. Christ Church San Marcos is also accepting grocery store gift cards to distribute which you can drop off at their office located at 43 South Broadway between the hours of 9am and 5pm Tuesday to Thursday.

Another way to help is to connect directly with a family in need and support them with grocery assistance while the shutdown lasts. If you would like to volunteer to be connected directly with a family or person in need, or if you are a person in need of food assistance during the government shutdown, please complete the survey below. The Village of Tarrytown is working with local community organizations including It Takes A Village and the Community Food Pantry to identify those who might need assistance.

Question Title

1. Are you a person willing to help or a person in need of food assistance? (Required.)

This is a neighbor-to-neighbor assistance network. If you sign up to help, or to be helped, the Village will help make the connection for direct assistance during the government shutdown by working with our community organizations who are already serving the community. This would be an additional layer of support during a difficult period by and for individual community members. By signing up on this form, you are agreeing to be connected directly with another community member to either help or be helped.
