Shire of Goomalling - Health & Wellbeing Survey

The Shire is developing a Public Health Plan (the Plan) for our local community, in line with the WA Public Health Act 2016.

The overarching aim is to ensure the best possible health, well-being and quality of life for all Australians, now and into the future. The Shires plan must align with the Western Australian Public Health Plan, (the SPHPlan) which aims to promote, prevent, protect and enable public health, with the overarching principles of Aboriginal health and well-being, and equity and inclusion.

While State Government agencies are primarily responsible for the health & well-being of community members, local governments can have a positive impact on improving health & well-being through the range of services they provide.

Healthy Active Lifestyles

The Shire provides a range of infrastructure to support healthy active lifestyles, including footpaths, playing fields, courts and playgrounds.

The Shire is not responsible for public transport services, Policing, provision of or allied health services, but it does consider opportunities and initiatives and collaborations with regional agencies such as WACHS and Injury Matters that support local public health and wellbeing outcomes.

Socially connected, empowered and inclusive communities

The Shire delivers a range of activities that support social connection and inclusivity, including:

· community events

· Hosts activities at the Public Library and Public Pool

· Supports recognition of First Nation culture through NAIDOC week activations, and support for Reconciliation.
2.What would be your top THREE priorities for the Shire to focus on to build a more socially connected, empowered and inclusive community?
Safe, prepared and protected

The Shire has a key role to play in the enforcement and promotion of legislative compliance under the State public and Environmental Health legislation. This includes the services provided by the Shires Environmental Health Officer, Ranger, Depot and Community Services Team, and the Building, Planning and Compliance Teams.

The Shire also has a legislative role to play in regard to preparing, responding and recovering from disaster and in providing effective management of waste. The Shire also provides:

· A public space CCTV network covering the central business district and other areas identified by WA Police

· Advice and support for people wanting to reduce their waste
