What is a General Improvement District (GID)? A GID is a special district created and managed by property owners, businesses, and residents to provide enhanced neighborhood services such as safety, cleaning, and beautification. GIDs are formed via a public process (including petition, public hearing, and vote within the proposed district) and are funded by a special assessment on commercial and residential properties within its boundaries. Owners and renters of commercial and residential property within the district make up its governing board. GIDs have most recently been formed in the
Ballpark neighborhood and along the
South Broadway corridor.
