The D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center is sponsoring walk-in legal clinics for community-based entrepreneurs with general legal questions about their aspiring and existing small businesses.

This is a brief advice and referral clinic. Volunteers are not expected to provide ongoing representation. Malpractice insurance is provided.

Many of the clients are already receiving technical assistance from local small business technical assistance providers. The following are examples of questions that might arise:

How do I transition from operating as a sole proprietorship to a corporate or non-corporate business entity?

What is the difference between an employee and independent contractor?

How do I negotiate reasonable lease terms?

A free training manual on Small Business Legal Issues is available to volunteers.
