Thanks for your interest in helping support this important workshop series created by and for high school students.
The program format will consist of a large group presentation and the second half of the training will be small group conversations. Each breakout group will have two adults. Your job will be to run the breakout session BUT student co-facilitators will help to get the conversation going and keep it running. One adult will be an expert for the topic of the breakout group and also an expert in disinformation and social media. The other adult will be affiliated with our sponsor organization. We are recruiting students from the Youth Creating Change fellowship program to co-facilitate and help get the conversation going and keep it running. Need more info? Please sign up to help co-facilitate the breakout groups for the Social Media for Social Justice training. It's just 2 1/2 hours a month in the spring. This will include a1-hourprep meeting prior to each session and the 1 1/2 hours for each session.
How can you do that? There are a couple of strategies we have in mind, and you will receive lots of support.
Provide examples that align to the topic of the main presentation. We will have a planning session before each training to help you brainstorm ideas for leading your breakout. We’ll be looking for your input to make sure the conversation is interesting and engaging for teens. Help students to engage. Sometimes getting people to speak up often requires just one person to respond to a question or be the first person to ask a question. The break outs will be organized around topics that participants will choose at registration. We’ll come up with a list of possible questions to ask so you are well prepared. Feed suggestions to YCC fellows. As you listen to the discussion, you may have ideas to get the students talking. You can feed suggestions to the YCC fellows that they can use to speak up that will encourage peer to peer conversations.
