Introduction


The City of Santa Monica welcomes applications from interested parties for educational and entertainment activities at the Pico and Main Street Farmers Markets. The intent of the Santa Monica Farmers Markets is to provide access to California Grown produce, flowers and farm products as well as show case the Santa Monica lifestyle. To this end the farmers market curates hands on educational and entertainment activities consistent with and complimentary to the Farmers Market mission and goals. Activities and themes may include but are not limited to: cooking, home gardening, sustainability and urban homesteading demonstrations and workshops, musical performances, face painters, balloon designers, magic or puppet shows, story time, jugglers, mimes, arts and crafts and dance performances. We do not accept applications from organizations wishing to fund-raise or provide child ID stations.

The contract periods, amount and location of space allocated, and frequency of attendance for selected applicants will vary and will be determined in the application evaluation process and may be negotiated collaboratively to best suit both the market and applicant. Applicants are strongly encouraged to visit both markets prior to applying to better understand the venues and ensure the best possible fit for both the markets and the applicant.


Pico Farmers Market
Day & Location: Saturdays at 2200 Virginia Avenue
Schedule: Set up 9:00 am – 1:00 pm, Market Hours 8:00 am – 1:00 pm, Breakdown 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm

Participants include:
  • 33 California farmers
  • 3 prepared food vendors
  • 1 children's activity
  • Musical performances
As such the Pico Market has developed a unique character as a quintessential Santa Monica experience. Between 1000-2000 customers visit the Pico Farmers Market each weekend making it an excellent marketing opportunity. Visitors to the market include local neighborhood and Santa Monica residents, tourists, and visitors from greater Los Angeles County who purchase produce, meet friends and family for breakfast and lunch and often stay two to three hours enjoying the ambiance, music and food.


Main Street Farmers Market
Day & Location: Sundays at 2640 Main Street
Schedule: Set up 7:30 am – 8:30 am, Market Hours 8:30 am – 1:30 pm, Breakdown 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm

Participants include:
  • 35 California farmers
  • 14 prepared food vendors
  • 8 retail businesses from the local business district
  • 3-6 children's activities
  • Musical performances
As such the Sunday Market has developed a unique character as a quintessential Santa Monica experience.  Over 5000 customers visit the Sunday Main Street Farmers Market each weekend making it an excellent marketing opportunity. Visitors to the market include local neighborhood and Santa Monica residents, tourists, and visitors from greater Los Angeles County who purchase produce, meet friends and family for breakfast and lunch and often stay two to three hours enjoying the ambiance, music and food.


Applications
All Entertainment and Educational Program applicants may apply on a rolling basis throughout the year and selected applicants are scheduled on a quarterly basis according to the schedule below. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Applicants will be notified of acceptance or rejection within approximately three weeks of the submission deadlines:
  • April 15 to participate July-Sept
  • July 15 to participate Oct-Dec
  • October 15 to participate Jan-Mar
  • January 15 to participate Apr-Jun
