The Birmingham Police Department recently arrested a journalist who was covering an event during our temporary curfew. This is the second instance this week of a journalist being arrested or detained.

The curfew was not intended to stifle the voices of our people or our press. We need them more now than ever.

We believe in the first amendment, especially now. This moment needs our voices – including the voice of a free press.
