Dalhousie University First-generation Student Survey
A big welcome to everyone!
What is this survey for?
This survey is created in an effort to recruit a diverse body of students to share their first-generation university student experiences at Dalhousie. While a commonly used definition of a first-generation university student in other academic institutions is someone with no prior family history of university attendance, we also understand that the phrase "first-generation" is open-ended and are always looking for new voices.
How will this survey be used?
This survey serves as a preliminary screening for people who are interested in participating in a follow-up email interview. Our hope is to chat with 10-12 undergraduate students and 5-7 post-undergraduate students to better understand their experiences of navigating academic and social life as first-generation students at Dalhousie. Once selected for the follow-up email interview, the person submitting the email responses will be compensated 10 Canadian dollars for their time via Interac e-Transfer. Collectively, we would like to gauge public interest in initiating first-generation student support networks at Dalhousie and assess feasibility for their implementation.
We kindly appreciate all for their interest. However, due to limited funding, we sincerely apologize that only some participants will be contacted for the follow-up interview.
Before you go:
As a first-generation student myself, I want you to know that your presence on campus is empowering and worth celebrating! Keep being a trailblazer and take good care of yourself.
