Are you ready to register for EmploymentWorks?

The EmploymentWorks Canada (EWC) program, offered by Autism Nova Scotia, wants to help you build employment skills, gain confidence, and explore different types of work through job-shadowing. Take part in this survey if you are interested in EmploymentWorks and want to find out if you are ready to apply!

* 4. Participants in the EmploymentWorks program search for jobs each and every week as part of the program.

* 5. EmploymentWorks Canada staff support you in developing a variety of work skills, such as writing a cover letter and resume, and preparing for a job interview.

* 6. Each program enrolls 8 participants with ASD and 2-3 peer mentors. Participants have many opportunities throughout the program to develop skills to build friendships and professional relationships.

* 7. The program consists of 2 sessions per week for 12 weeks. One session is a Structured Learning session, aimed at employment and social skill building. The second session is job shadowing at a work site. Each session is 2 and 1/2 hours for a total of 5 hours per week.

* 8. Structured Learning sessions within the EmploymentWorks program are classroom-based. Participants work in groups to build pre-employment skills.

* 9. EmploymentWorks Canada participants have job shadowed at many different organizations, such as Shoppers Drug Mart, the Atlantica Hotel, Common Roots Urban Farm, Kitchen Door Catering, Sobeys and CKDU Radio.

* 10. Participants in the EmploymentWorks program interact with the local community for both Structured Learning and Worksite sessions.

* 11. Program participants are expected to arrange for travel to and from sessions. Some participants drive themselves, have a family member drive them, or use public transit to get to the program. Sessions will be held at various locations including the Autism Nova Scotia Bedford office, employment agencies, libraries, and at least 4 different businesses in the HRM.
