2025 AOA CPT/RUC Advisor Application
The American Osteopathic Association is now accepting applications for roles on its Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) Editorial Panel and Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC) advisory teams. AOA CPT and RUC advisors and alternate advisors are appointed by the AOA President and shall serve for a minimum of two (2) years, with an initial term running from 2026 to 2028. These appointment opportunities are volunteer roles. Any travel associated with meetings is reimbursed according to AOA's travel policy. Descriptions of each opportunity are below:
CPT Editorial Panel Advisory Committee:
The CPT Editorial Panel is charged with maintaining the CPT code set and ensuring that codes remain up to date and reflect the latest medical care provided to patients. The CPT Advisory Committee is comprised of representatives from over 100 medical specialty societies and it provides input to the panel on applications for new codes and code revisions.
RUC Advisory Committee:
The RUC is a multispecialty committee dedicated to describing the resources required to provide physician services which the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) considers in adopting Relative Value Units (RVUs) for the physician fee schedule. The RUC Advisory Committee is comprised of representatives from over 100 medical specialty societies. Specialty society advisors attend the RUC meeting, support their societies' development of recommendations via a survey process, and present their societies’ recommendations, which the RUC evaluates.
Position Responsibilities:
Review changes before the relevant panels and assist with the development of AOA recommendations on behalf of the osteopathic profession.
Participate in conference calls and review written materials during the recommendation development process.
Attend in-person meetings, each 3 days in length (primary advisors are expected to attend all in-person meetings which are held 3 times per year, while alternate advisors will only be expected to attend 1 meeting per year).
Serve on the AOA council charged with oversight of AOA CPT/RUC engagement and provide updates.
Assist in mentoring physicians on payment and coding issues.
Position Requirements:
Osteopathic physicians who are members of the AOA or AOIA are welcome to apply.
Background in physician payment and/or CPT coding.
Ability to travel (3 times per year for primary advisors, 1 time per year for alternate advisors to attend 3-day meetings).
