IBPA Board of Directors Application (Deadline = December 31, 2023)

Application Instructions

The Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA) is in search of engaged, energetic leaders who are interested in making a positive contribution to the independent publishing community. If that is you, we welcome you to apply to serve on our board of directors.

IBPA board members are critical to guiding the organization's strategic direction and providing thought leadership within our committees, among the membership and in the larger publishing industry.

IBPA wants the board to represent different publishing models and member types, and welcomes applications from members of different cultural backgrounds, heritages, ages, gender, and communities, including BIPOC, LGBTQIA2+, and Disabled members, as we understand that the diversity of the board representing all members is crucial to its success. As our DEI Commitment says, we acknowledge “that the legacy of the book publishing industry is one of privilege, bias, and exclusion, which has significantly affected the books that are traditionally published. To realize [IBPA's] vision of a world where every independent publisher has the access, knowledge, and tools needed to professionally engage in all aspects of an inclusive publishing industry, IBPA commits to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion within its leadership, policies, practices, publications, programs, and membership.”

Directors, voted in for two-year terms, are expected to attend five to six meetings a year, serve on IBPA committees, and represent the best interests of IBPA’s membership. Each annual term runs July 1 through June 30.

The deadline to apply for the Fiscal Year 2024-2025 term (being July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2026) is December 31, 2023.

Any IBPA member may apply on behalf of themself or someone else for consideration by the IBPA Board Governance Committee.
