Volunteer Application

Thank you for your interest in contributing to the development of resources for Ontario midwives!

We are looking to recruit midwifery client representatives for the Association of Ontario Midwives (AOM) clinical practice guideline (CPG) work group on Group B Streptococcus (GBS). The volunteers will work in collaboration with the AOM clinical practice guidelines team and the CPG committee until spring 2022 to update a guideline to support evidence-based midwifery practice in Ontario.

What is a clinical practice guideline?
A clinical practice guideline (CPG) summarizes research evidence relevant to a specific clinical topic. The AOM’s CPGs are intended to help midwives and clients make decisions about a client’s care. They do that by describing a range of options for the prevention, treatment or management of a condition and exploring current research on the topic.

What is the clinical practice guideline committee?
The development of each AOM CPG is guided by the input of the CPG committee. The CPG committee includes midwives with a specific interest in GBS or a general interest in how research is used.

How does a midwifery client representative contribute?
The input of midwifery clients will ensure that AOM CPGs best address the needs, views, experiences and interests of a wide range of midwifery clients. Midwifery clients can contribute by reflecting on their own experiences in midwifery care and considering the broader community of midwifery clients.

What can I expect as a midwifery client representative?
Midwifery client representatives will attend 3-4 meetings every few months, until spring 2022. Each meeting will last 2-3 hours and take place over Zoom. There may also be email correspondence between meetings, as well as background reading to do before each meeting. The work may include:
  • Identifying issues and research questions of concern to midwifery clients for inclusion in the scope of the guideline;
  • Highlighting areas where midwifery client values and preferences should be explored and acknowledged in the guideline;
  • Ensuring that a wide range of midwifery client issues and concerns are taken into account when the committee develops recommendations for care;
  • Reading and providing feedback on drafts and recommendations;
  • Providing input on client-focused materials as needed.
