The NCADH is compiling tools to help citizen scientists (volunteers) collect data about streams and to store, analyze, and share data. The purpose of this survey is to assess your interest in attending training workshops to learn about the tools and how to use them.
The methods being taught are broken into tiers based upon method precision/accuracy, quality assurance requirements, and equipment requirements. The following table describes the method tiers and can be referenced when answering the questions below:

  Tier 1 Tier 2
Data uses - Education
- Baseline
- "Red Flags"
- Identify waters for follow up monitoring
- Watershed Planning
QA/QC requirements QAPP not required Approved QAPP required
Example habitat assessment method Photographs, GPS coordinates, site descriptions Use a form to calculate habitat scores based on habitat presence and condition
Example macroinvertebrate method Izaak Walton League "Save Our Streams" protocol EQI SMIE protocol
Example chemical/physical method pH measurement with a colorimetric kit or test strips pH measurement with a pen meter
