Introduction Letter

Dear RRLRAIA Residents:

Once per decade, the Ruxton-Riderwood-Lake Roland Area Improvement Association (RRLRAIA) draws up a community plan to guide its priorities over the following 10 years. The two previous plans were published in 2001 and 2011. It’s time for us to get working on the next plan, ideally to be released in early 2021.

The purpose of this survey — which will take 6-7 minutes — is to obtain vital community input on key issues to be addressed by our association over the next 10 years. Your feedback will help us develop the plan, which will then be reviewed and adopted by Baltimore County officials. Significant accomplishments have flowed from the 2001 and 2011 plans, such as:

• Transformation of Lake Roland Park, which was the result of RRLRAIA’s advocacy for Baltimore County to take over management of the park from Baltimore City.

• Creation of the Greater Ruxton Area Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to enhancing, restoring and preserving the unique qualities and character of our communities.

• Coordination with the Baltimore County Council to pass legislation to make residential properties within RRLRAIA's boundaries subject to the Baltimore County Design Review Panel.

• Collaboration with Royal Farms management to improve traffic flow, landscaping, lighting and signage at their store on Joppa Road at Thornton.

 • Collaboration with county council members to enact legislation prohibiting  electronic signs in certain areas.

These are just a few of many examples in which RRLRAIA has had a significant impact.

In completing the survey, please keep in mind RRLRAIA’s mission: “To protect, preserve and enhance the Ruxton, Riderwood and Lake Roland area communities through stewardship, education and advocacy.”

Your input will greatly help us determine where we should focus our efforts to meet our mission over the next decade. We are fortunate to live and/or work in one of the county’s most lovely areas. Please help our association keep it that way by letting us know what issues are important to you.

It is very easy to assign a score of maximum importance to all the issues suggested in this survey. Please be judicious. RRLRAIA’s resources are limited and to assign high importance to all issues will result in funds and time being stretched widely and thinly — and ineffectively.

Your individual input will not be shared with anyone outside RRLRAIA Board members.

Thank you for taking the time to help us.

— Ruxton-Riderwood-Lake Roland Area Improvement Association Board of Governors
