GPFAC Application Process Overview

Purpose
The Beryl Institute GPFAC serves to provide guidance and input on the strategic and tactical direction of the Institute. A critical commitment of the Institute is to serve as the hub for all voices impacting and influencing patient experience and the patient experience movement. The GPFAC will complement the Institute’s boards by ensuring the voices of patients and families are a central consideration in the strategic direction and resource offerings of the Institute. The Council will review the Institute’s areas of focus and current resources and offer suggestions on new opportunities, topics of interest, etc., ensuring the perspective of the patient, resident and/or family is part of all Institute efforts.

Qualities of an Ideal Candidate
Qualities and skills of patient and family advisors, as identified by the Institute for Patient- and Family-Centered Care, include individuals and families who are able to:
- Share insights and information about their experiences in ways that others can learn from them
- See beyond their own personal experiences
- Show concern for more than one issue or agenda
- Listen well
- Respect the perspectives of others
- Speak comfortably in a group with candor
- Interact well with many different kinds of people
- Work in partnership with others
- Have a teachable spirit
 
In addition we look for individuals who:
- Bring a sense of humor and humility
- Commit to the GPFAC mission and meeting attendance
- Commit to the greater mission and purpose of The Beryl Institute
 
Terms of Service/Commitment
GPFAC members are appointed for and should be willing to commit to a two-year term. Members are eligible for re-appointment for two consecutive terms for a total of four years of consecutive service without further application.  After four years of consecutive service GPFAC membership shall be reviewed. The GPFAC meets every other month and does as ideas arise take on special projects or efforts for the Institute.

Application Process
The application process consists of two steps:
1. Completion of the formal application and submission of resumer/CV
2. Participation in a team interview with current leaders/members of the GPFAC
