Introduction

Purpose

The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Strategic Planning Work Group will work to identify focus areas and goals that lead to short and long-term systemic change. Information from the Phase 1 DEI assessment will be used to identify, understand, and address challenges related to diversity, equity, and inclusion across the district.

Time Commitment
Thursday, May 16, 4-5pm: Intro Meeting
Tuesday, July 16 & Wednesday, July 17, 8am-4pm: Capacity Building Workshops
Regular meetings during the 2024-2025 school year

DEI Learning Objectives for the July workshops will focus on:

I: DEI Foundational Knowledge & Skills
  • Develop a common diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) language
  • Understand where implicit bias and DEI conflict comes from and how it is connected to larger structural issues of inequality, with a particular focus on race and racism
  • Learn how to engage with others in a culture of accountability
  • Develop and practice skills navigating DEI conflict through dialogue
  • Enhance skills to create a welcoming and inclusive culture
  • Understand DEI organizational change models and practices

II: Create a working infrastructure for DEI organizational sustainability
  • Learn DEI organizational change methods
    Understand opportunities and threats to organizational DEI work
  • Apply DEI organizational change methods
  • Identify next steps to continue SGCSD’s DEI journey
Nominee Eligibility
  • Submit a completed interest.
  • Commit to the time commitment and pre-scheduled meetings/workshops
Process

Interest forms are submitted to Tangible Development via SurveyMonkey.

Tangible Development project lead will carefully examine the qualifications of each applicant to determine eligibility and share interest forms with the SGCSD project leads for review and selection.

Selection criteria will focus on:
  • Responsiveness to application questions
  • Ability to commit to the committee requirements
  • Diversity/inclusivity - the most effective committees are diverse in all ways. To ensure a committee is diverse, we will strive for representation across composition and organizational structure
