Introduction

Several agri-chemicals available to olive growers are currently under review both in Australia and overseas. Depending on the outcome of these reviews these chemicals may be withdrawn from use.

To assist in meeting future industry needs AOA is seeking feedback from all olive growers on their use of the following agri-chemicals currently under review:

PARAQUAT + DIQUAT = Spray Seed – PER 85411 (Version 2): GROUP L Herbicide / Olives / Range of broadleaf & grass weeds (as per label)

Regulatory issues: APVMA – currently under review.
·        Diquat was nominated because of concerns relating to the environment, public and occupational health and safety, and residues.
·        Paraquat was nominated because of concerns relating to the environment, public and occupational health and safety.

IPDM issues:
Weed resistance management

Product to be used:
SPRAY.SEED 250 HERBICIDE [APVMA No. 46516]

Plus other REGISTERED PRODUCTS

Containing: 135 g/L PARAQUAT present as PARAQUAT DICHLORIDE and 115 g/L DIQUAT present as DIQUAT DIBROMIDE as their only active constituents

Mode of action:
Paraquat & Diquat (Spray Seed) is a contact herbicide.

Application rate:
·        Boom Spray: 2.4 - 3.2 L product / ha
·        Hand-gun: 240 - 320 ml product / 100 L

Critical use comments:
·       Apply as necessary in accordance with label directions and restraints.
·       Use suitable ground application equipment. Ensure equipment is correctly calibrated.
·       Use higher rates for perennial grass weeds.
·       Increase the application rate as the size of target weeds increases.
·       Only apply spray to actively growing grass weeds free from environmental stresses.
·       Avoid overspray or incidental spray drift onto crop, as damage or death of plants may occur.
·       Avoid spraying when crops are in flower or fruiting.

Withholding Period: Paraquat & Diquat (Spray Seed)
·       Harvest: Not required when used as directed.
·       Grazing: DO NOT graze livestock on treated area or cut for stock food for 7 DAYS after spray application. REMOVE stock from treated areas 3 DAYS before slaughter.
