You are being asked to volunteer since you meet the requirements for enrollment into this study. Your participation is voluntary which means you can choose whether or not you want to participate. You may withdraw any time without penalty. If you decline to continue, any data gathered to that point may be used in data analysis. If you choose not to participate, there will be no loss of benefits to which you are entitled. Before you can make your decision, you will need to know what the study is about, the possible risks and benefits of being in this study, and what you will have to do in this study.
Purpose: The study for which you are being asked to participate is designed to investigate the perceptions of children's social workers about the cultural sensitivity of school counselors and other school mandated reporters in their reporting of child abuse and neglect.
The results of the study will inform graduate program educators, children's social workers, and school mandated reporters on whether or not children's social workers feel future mandated reporters enrolled in teacher education, school counseling, and graduate related programs should require cultural sensitivity mandated reporter training in curriculum.
Procedure: To be a voluntary participant in this study, you will be asked to complete an anonymous electronic survey about your perceptions of the cultural sensitivity of school mandated reporters in their reporting. After giving informed consent, you will be instructed to click on a link to be directed to the survey. The survey will consist of approximately 15 multiple choice questions (including demographic questions) and should take you no more than 5 minutes to complete.
Possible Risks & Benefits: It is expected that participation in this study will provide you with no more than minimal risk or discomfort which means that you should not experience it as any more troubling than your normal daily life. Risks are not expected, however, there are always unexpected risks. Unforeseeable risks are always possible in any research, and could include increased anxiety, reduced confidence in others, or altered self-concept. Other possible risks may include, for example, an accidental disclosure of your private information, or discomfort by answering questions that are embarrassing. If you feel uncomfortable or distressed, please discontinue the survey. Below is a list of resources available to you should you experience any distress. You can withdraw from the study at any time without penalty.
