Help Repaint the Beloved Slow Sanchez Mural!

Join us in revitalizing one of San Francisco’s most beloved public artworks —the Sanchez Slow Street Mural, a block-long masterpiece by local artist Amos Goldbaum. Originally completed in 2022, this intricate line drawing stretches along Sanchez Street between 24th and Elizabeth, celebrating the beauty of San Francisco’s Victorian homes, Sutro Tower, and the vibrant neighborhood of Noe Valley.

Funded by community donations and brought to life with the help of neighbors, this mural has become a gathering point for residents and a symbol of the city’s Slow Streets program, which reclaims roads for pedestrians, cyclists, and public art.

Now, it’s time to refresh the mural—and we need your help! Whether you’re an artist, a fan of public art, or just looking to get involved in a community project, we welcome volunteers of all skill levels.

FAQS

Volunteer Dates:

Saturday, April 26th & Sunday 27th

What does volunteering entail?
You will be tracing over existing lines to repaint and refresh the vibrancy of the mural. You need to feel comfortable holding a paint brush (like the type you use to paint the house).

How do volunteer shifts work?
We will organize volunteers around a morning (9AM - 1PM) and an afternoon shift (2PM - 6PM) on both Saturday & Sunday. We don't expect you to stay the entire time, but contributing anywhere between 1-3 hours would be great!

Do I need to bring supplies?
We will provide all painting supplies. We will also provide water and limited snacks for volunteers.

What should I wear?
You should come in clothing that you are comfortable getting paint on. And you should be OK being on your hands & knees. We'll have some knee pads available (and you can BYO as well!)

Are kids welcome?
Kids are welcome and we'll have a small kids activity area. We just ask that they do not disturb the paint.

How will I know if I'm confirmed?
A member of the organizing team will reach out to you via email to confirm your shift and send reminders.
