Hello Participant:

You are being asked to participate in an online (web-based) survey called Caregivers Who Care, led by Jeremiah Stovall, a doctoral candidate at Keiser University.

General Information

There are some things you should know about this study. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between trait emotional intelligence, cognitive and affective empathy, and perceived stress in cohabitating caregivers of persons with severe mental health disorders (SMHDs). Emotional intelligence is the management of one’s own and other’s emotions and empathy is the ability to feel what another person is feeling. Cognitive empathy is the ability to recognize and understand another person’s mental state and affective empathy is the ability to share the feelings of others without experiencing the stimulus that caused the feeling in the other person.

If you choose to participate you will be asked to complete a survey that should take approximately one hour to complete. There are no foreseeable risks in participating in this study as participation includes only answering impersonal survey items. There are no foreseeable direct benefits to the study as answers will be compiled collectively and analyzed, then potentially published. To participate in this study participants must be 18 years old or older. Additionally, participants must live with a person with a severe mental health disorder and provide some form of care for them.

Personal information such as your name, email address, or IP address will not be collected and your identity will remain anonymous. The researcher ensures confidentiality and anonymity of the participants by using encrypted sites and encrypted software. This survey is anonymous and there is no identifiable information requested in the study.  Please do not include your name or identifiable information in your responses.
